Carol O'Hare, Executive Director
Carol O'Hare began serving as a volunteer for the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling in 1993. She served as Secretary of the Board from 1995 to 1996, assisting in the successful restructuring of the organization and the development of the Council's first corporate membership fundraising program.
In April 1996, Ms. O'Hare accepted the Council's first staff position of Executive Director. In addition to providing organizational leadership, Carol is actively involved in developing effective industry and community collaborations at both the state and national level.
As a person in long term recovery since 1991, Carol brings a unique insight and personal perspective to her work. Ms. O’Hare has authored and co-authored numerous articles and resource publications, and is recognized as an expert advisor, accomplished public speaker, dedicated advocate and respected leader in the problem gambling field.
In July 2014, the National Council on Problem Gambling presented Carol O'Hare with the Monsignor Joseph Dunne Lifetime Award for Advocacy. This award is given only in exceptional circumstances in recognition of at least 20 years of dedication to improving the lives of problem gamblers and their families through advocacy, research, training, or the promotion of public awareness. Described as a “voice of reason and catalyst for change,” Carol was recognized as a pioneer in the development of responsible gaming programs and a determined advocate who fearlessly shares her own story of addiction and recovery."
