Community Awareness and Outreach

The Council engages in many activities to raise awareness of problem gambling as a community health issue. We are committed to providing appropriate and accurate information and resources, whether speaking to a small group, participating in a community event, or supporting state and national problem gambling awareness initiatives.Content

When is Gambling Really a Problem?

For most people gambling is just harmless entertainment, but for some it becomes a serious problem.

So how can you tell the difference?

Council staff and volunteers are available to answer that question through our community awareness presentations and dissemination of problem gambling information at events such as…

  • Employee Health Fairs
  • Human Resource Staff Meetings
  • Agency In-Service Training
  • Management Briefing
  • Community Wellness Events

To schedule a presentation for your organization or agency, or to request the Council’s participation in a community event, please call the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling at (702) 369-9740 and ask for our Program Coordinator.

National Problem Gambling Awareness Month

March is National Problem Gambling Awareness Month and communities nationwide work to raise awareness of the consequences of problem gambling and the resources available for help. This initiative is also a celebration of the men and women who are overcoming problems associated with their gambling behavior.

Each year the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling disseminates information to healthcare providers and community agencies throughout the state, encouraging them to become partners in this grassroots public awareness campaign.

Organizations interested in supporting the initiative can also visit the National Problem Gambling Awareness Month website at to find educational materials and other useful tools related to the prevention and treatment of problem gambling.
